Hats is a focused drum synthesizer designed specifically for creating hi-hat and cymbal sounds. Instead of trying to cover every percussion role, it concentrates on the upper-frequency elements that define rhythm, groove, and energy in electronic and hybrid music.

By combining synthesis and sampling in a single instrument, Hats offers both authenticity and flexibility. It can recreate familiar drum machine tones, realistic acoustic cymbals, or entirely new metallic textures that sit somewhere in between.

Synthesized Metallic Noise Engine

At the core of Hats is a unique noise synthesis section inspired by classic analog drum machines. Rather than relying on simple white or pink noise, it uses multiple square-wave oscillators tuned to different pitches and phases. This approach creates a controllable metallic character that feels alive and harmonically rich.

By adjusting the balance and tuning of these oscillators, Hats can move from tight, crisp hi-hats to complex, shimmering cymbal tones. This synthesis method captures the essence of vintage machines while offering more precision and control than traditional noise generators.

Sample Layer with Vintage Character

Alongside the synthesized noise engine, Hats includes a dedicated sample section. The factory library features a wide range of hi-hat and cymbal samples, from rare analog drum machines to real acoustic recordings. Many of these samples were further shaped using classic studio hardware and tape recording, adding warmth and character.

The sample layer can be blended with the synthesized noise or used on its own. This makes it easy to combine the consistency of synthesis with the realism and unpredictability of sampled material.

Flexible Effects and Signal Flow

Hats includes four built-in effects designed to shape and transform the sound: ring modulation, bit crushing, filtering, and reverb. These effects can be reordered freely using a simple drag-and-drop interface, encouraging experimentation and unconventional processing chains.

The filter section combines high-pass and band-pass stages, allowing precise control over brightness and focus. Whether you need sharp, cutting hats or softer, more atmospheric cymbals, the effects section provides the tools to sculpt the sound quickly.
