FAQ

This section answers common questions about how the site works, how plugins are selected, and what the different criteria mean. If something is unclear or missing, the answers below should help clarify the approach.

What is this site about?

This site is an independent directory of music plugins, focused on usability and real-world workflows. It helps producers find tools that are practical, transparent, and easy to work with.

How do you decide which plugins are included?

Plugins are selected based on clear criteria such as having a trial version, not requiring iLok, working offline, not depending on a separate player, and offering a resizable interface.

View the full selection criteria.

Why are plugins that require iLok excluded?

Many users prefer plugins that do not rely on external license managers or background services. Requiring iLok often adds friction, especially for offline or portable setups.

What does “works offline” mean in practice?

It means the plugin can be installed, authorized, and used without a constant internet connection. Occasional online activation may still be required, but ongoing use should work fully offline.

What do you mean by “no player required”?

Some plugins require a separate host or player application to run. This site focuses on plugins that work as standalone VST, AU, or AAX plugins without needing an extra player.

Why is a resizable interface important?

Resizable interfaces improve usability across different screen sizes and resolutions. Fixed-size interfaces can be difficult to use on modern high-resolution or small laptop screens.

Are the ratings subjective or measured?

Ratings are based on practical considerations such as usability, workflow impact, and overall experience. They are not scientific measurements and should be seen as guidance, not absolute judgments.

Is this site affiliated with any plugin developers?

No. The site is maintained independently and is not affiliated with any plugin developers or manufacturers.

Can I suggest a plugin or a developer?

Yes. Suggestions are welcome, especially if a plugin meets the site’s criteria.

Why is a plugin missing even though it seems popular?

Popularity alone is not enough. Some popular plugins do not meet the site’s criteria, or have licensing, workflow, or usability limitations that exclude them.

Do you include free plugins?

Yes. Free plugins are included as long as they meet the same criteria as paid plugins.

Do you review Kontakt-based instruments?

No. Plugins that require Kontakt or similar players are generally excluded, as they depend on an additional player layer.

Do you accept paid placements or sponsorships?

Paid placements or sponsorships may be considered, but they do not guarantee inclusion or influence ratings. Transparency and independence are always maintained.
