8-Bit and Chiptune Synthesizer

miniBit is a compact synthesizer built around the unmistakable sound of early digital hardware. It embraces the technical limitations of vintage game consoles and retro computers, turning aliasing, low resolution, and simple waveforms into expressive musical features rather than flaws.

At its core, miniBit focuses on immediacy and character. The sound is intentionally rough and direct, making it easy to achieve authentic chiptune tones as well as more experimental digital textures that feel playful, aggressive, or nostalgic.

Raw Digital Oscillators

The main oscillator offers a collection of classic waveforms inspired by early digital sound chips, paired with a sub oscillator one octave below for added weight. These oscillators are intentionally not bandlimited, allowing aliasing artifacts to become part of the sound. This gives miniBit its sharp, gritty edge and unmistakable retro identity.

Additional bit reduction and downsampling further exaggerate the lo-fi nature of the synth. Used subtly, these processes add character; pushed harder, they create noisy, crushed textures that feel straight out of vintage hardware.

Custom Waveform Design

miniBit includes a custom waveform editor that allows users to draw and shape their own digital waves. Each preset can store multiple custom waveforms, making it possible to design unique timbres that go far beyond standard chiptune sounds.

This feature opens up creative possibilities similar to early wavetable and tracker-based synthesis. By sequencing or modulating waveforms, miniBit can produce evolving tones that feel both retro and experimental.

Step Sequencing and Motion

A built-in step sequencer adds rhythmic and melodic movement to the sound. With multiple modulation destinations, it can control parameters such as pitch, volume, filtering, waveform selection, and downsampling. This makes miniBit capable of generating percussive patterns, animated basslines, and constantly shifting textures.

Because the sequencer is tightly integrated into the synth engine, it encourages hands-on experimentation. Even simple patches can become lively and unpredictable when driven by step-based modulation.

Simple Synthesis, Big Personality

Despite its compact design, miniBit includes essential synthesis tools such as envelopes, filtering, modulation, and basic effects. These elements are tuned to support the core 8-bit aesthetic without diluting it, keeping the workflow fast and focused.
